Description

This vintage Persian rug from the Ardabil region dates back to the 1950s and showcases the classic Polonaise design, a style inspired by Safavid court weavings. Despite its European name, the Polonaise pattern originates from Persian craftsmanship and was historically exported to Europe, where it gained popularity among Polish nobility.

The rug measures 2.67 by 1.67 metres and features a carefully structured layout with repeating, ornate motifs. Its deep, dark field is adorned with stylised palmettes, floral elements, and intricate forms arranged symmetrically, reflecting the elegance of traditional Polonaise carpets. The rich colour palette blends deep brown and navy with soft ivory, muted red, and subtle teal accents, adding visual depth without overwhelming the space.

Handwoven from high-quality wool, this Ardabil rug offers durability alongside decorative appeal. Its firm structure makes it suitable for living rooms, studies, or any interior seeking a refined, historical touch. The distinctive ivory border frames the design, enhancing its balanced tonal contrasts.
