This antique Bakhtiari rug, measuring 3.15 by 2.1 metres, is an exceptional example of Persian weaving from the 1930s. Crafted with natural vegetable dyes, it features the iconic Tree of Life motif at its centre, symbolising vitality and spiritual growth. Surrounding this is the Farah Donbeh pattern, composed of stepped medallions that create a rhythmic and detailed design typical of Bakhtiari tribal art.
The rug's rich colour palette combines deep midnight blues, vibrant reds, warm ivories, and earthy greens, all mellowed by time to develop a unique patina that enhances its antique character. Each medallion contains intricate floral scenes, bringing a dynamic sense of movement and life to the composition. The borders are adorned with blossoms and vine scrolls, reflecting the rug’s strong connection to nature.
Hand-knotted from high-quality wool, this piece balances durability with fine detail, making it suitable both as a collectible treasure and a functional floor covering. While minor wear is present, it is consistent with the rug’s age and adds to its authentic heritage appeal.
This rug represents a significant piece of Persian tribal artistry, perfect for collectors or those seeking a heritage statement in their home décor.
