The Persian Lion Gabbeh - Vintage Kashkuli Gabbeh is a striking example of traditional tribal weaving from the Kashkuli subtribe of the Qashqai Confederation. Measuring 195 x 137 cm, this medium-sized rug features a bold lion motif set against a vivid red background, symbolising strength and courage.
Handwoven with high-quality tribal wool, this vintage Gabbeh reflects authentic nomadic artistry. The central lion is depicted in deep golden ochre with a midnight black outline, exuding both fierceness and nobility. Surrounding the lion are three crowned emblems, abstract symbols that may represent royal lineage or protective guardianship, common themes in Gabbeh designs.
The rug’s rhythmic border features repeating geometric patterns in indigo and ivory, providing a visual frame that contrasts with the freeform lion figure. This piece stands apart from commercial reproductions through its raw narrative quality, capturing the lived experience and folklore of its maker.
Ideal for both statement floor use and wall display, the Persian Lion Gabbeh showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Qashqai nomads and their distinctive weaving traditions. It remains in excellent condition, making it a valuable collectible for enthusiasts of tribal art and antique Persian rugs.
