This authentic Persian Gabbeh rug, handwoven in Shiraz during the 1940s, showcases traditional tribal craftsmanship from the Fars Province. Made from hand-spun wool with a cotton foundation, it features a thick, shaggy pile typical of Gabbeh rugs, offering both durability and texture.
The rug’s design centres on a geometric medallion surrounded by flower and tree motifs, reflecting the natural and symbolic themes common in Persian tribal art. The colour palette is rich and varied, incorporating burnt orange, chocolate brown, ivory, sky blue, navy blue, green, yellow, and pink accents. Distinctive tonal variations known as “Abrash” appear throughout, created by different batches of wool, adding subtle stripes and depth to the colouring.
Measuring 1.57 by 2.17 metres, this medium-sized rug is suitable for bedrooms or living rooms, bringing warmth and character to any interior. Both ends are finished with fringes, preserving the rug’s handcrafted authenticity. Vegetable dyes contribute to its vintage appeal and collectible nature.
Selected pieces can be viewed in the intended room so scale, colour and furniture relationships can be judged properly.
Additional unedited photos can be provided on request to help confirm colour, texture, pile and condition before an appointment.
Provenance, condition notes and authenticity guidance can be discussed for collectible and significant pieces.
