The Bakhtiari Kilim Rug is a vintage Persian flat-weave textile measuring 3.4 by 1.35 metres, handwoven by the Bakhtiari nomads of Iran. This collectible piece showcases the rich tribal artistry of one of Persia’s most respected weaving communities through its geometric patterns and natural colour palette.
The rug features bold diamond medallions interlaced with smaller geometric motifs, creating a layered effect that reflects the mountainous landscape and cultural symbolism of the Bakhtiari people. These patterns often represent protection, nature, and nomadic heritage.
Dyed with organic, plant-based materials, the rug displays a harmonious blend of camel hair tones symbolising strength, midnight blue for wisdom, and ivory with earthy browns to add warmth and contrast. The subtle abrash effect on the background highlights the use of natural dyes and adds depth to the flat weave.
Unlike pile rugs, this Kilim is flat-woven, making it lightweight yet robust. Its size and durability make it suitable for various uses, including floor covering, wall hanging, or as an accent over furniture, bringing authentic Persian tribal character into contemporary Australian interiors.
This Bakhtiari Kilim rug is a unique cultural artifact that offers both aesthetic appeal and a connection to Persian nomadic traditions. Vintage condition may show signs of wear, adding to its character. It is professionally cleaned and repaired to ensure longevity.
