The Antique Turkmen Tekke Rug is a genuine handwoven piece crafted by the Turkmen tribe, historically nomadic but now settled near the Iran-Afghanistan border. This heritage rug features the distinctive wide borders and repeating geometric motifs known as "Gul," characteristic of Tekke designs.
Made around 1930, the rug boasts a full wool pile on a cotton foundation, dyed with organic and vegetable pigments. Natural variations in wool batches and dyes create "Abrash"—subtle tonal stripes within the field that add depth and character. The colours have mellowed gracefully over time, lending a muted, rustic palette perfect for a Bohemian living space, farmhouse, or country home.
Measuring 2.1 by 2.6 metres, this rug is in excellent condition and offers a unique blend of cultural history and artisanal craftsmanship. Its sustainable materials and traditional techniques ensure it remains a timeless addition to any interior seeking authenticity and warmth.
Selected pieces can be viewed in the intended room so scale, colour and furniture relationships can be judged properly.
Additional unedited photos can be provided on request to help confirm colour, texture, pile and condition before an appointment.
Provenance, condition notes and authenticity guidance can be discussed for collectible and significant pieces.
