This Antique Bakhtiari Rug, measuring 3.3 by 1.9 metres, originates from Southeast Iran and dates back to the 1920s. Hand-knotted by Bakhtiari tribal artisans, it exemplifies traditional Persian craftsmanship with a richly detailed botanical panel design.
The rug’s composition features a fine local wool pile set on a durable cotton foundation. It is dyed using natural and organic vegetable dyes, contributing to its eco-friendly credentials and resulting in subtle tonal variations known as "Abrash". These variations create depth and visual interest through soft stripes that run across the rug.
The design showcases an elegant arrangement of floral and tree motifs, including Cyprus and Pine trees, framed by intricate borders. Its colour palette combines rustic red and burgundy tones with a navy blue background, accented by highlights in yellow, rose pink, and green, making it a striking feature for any living room or study.
As a heritage piece, this rug carries signs of age-related wear and minor imperfections, which add to its authenticity and character. It has been professionally washed and repaired to preserve its condition and longevity.
This antique Bakhtiari rug offers a timeless addition to interiors seeking historical depth combined with traditional artistry and natural materials.
